New Moves!

Hey y'all so I'm in the midst of rearranging and upgrading my website finally! A lot of new material will be put over there! Here's the link to check it out! www.wookjinclark.com

I'll still be posting some stuff here, but I am going to use this as more of a sketch/work blog from here on out! Thanks!

Back to It!

First off here's a bunch of tough ladies looking tough! Gotta finish this one up for sure!

Jeez, it's been awhile since I updated this! I'm sorry! But I've been busy with a bunch! Let's see, for starters, I've moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Portland, Oregon! It's quite the climate change, but everything and everyone in Portland is super nice and welcoming, so I cannot complain there.

Also more recently, I can finally talk about my new series of OGNs coming out through Oni Press called Megagogo! Here's the official announcement from NYCC. It will be part of Oni online initiative and launches in the second wave in April of this next year. Here's one of the pages from the preview!

These are some reference sketches for two characters in the book.

And here's some other doodles I kept meaning to upload. I'll turn these into finished illustrations when I get around to it, but for right now it's head down in book stuff for the rest of the year! Hope you dig them! I've just been in the mood to draw a bunch of tough doods and ladies lately.

I found this gem of a website too, if you are into background designs for animation! Here! And this amazing Tumblr of mostly screen caps from scifi movies! Here!

And here's a song I found online, and even though it's in Korean, and I can't really understand it all the way through, it's still a nice mellow winter slow jam for y'all!

Hope y'all have a safe and fun Happy Halloween this week!

Layout Kings!

I remember being introduced to Javier Pulido and Marcos Martin's works in college through Batgirl and Robin Year Ones. I have to admit I wasn't a huge fan at first, but have since grown to love whatever they do. They are probably two of the only people that I will buy something with their name on it, since most likely it will make me happy! If you ain't familiar with them, go read Human Target to start! I loved that series and they both worked on it!

Both work for mainstream publishers but don't really push the hardcore realist drawing style. Instead they both take a simpler route and focus on the layouts and compositions. I really dig the simple style and it gets right to the point. I realize too that whomever colors them also brings up the level of the work as well!

Here's some examples of their work!

Javier Pulido:

And Marcos Martin:

Gah! So good! I dunno, they both do things with their layouts that push storytelling norms and make the ready think about how to read the comic. I enjoy that, but I also enjoy as an artist wanting to try and implement these types of tools into my own craft. I always get eager to see their work when their names are on a title. I know Javier Pulido is currently on the Shade for DC, and Marcos Martin in working on Daredevil with a slew of other amazing artists as well!

They make reading mainstream comics for me refreshing and fun! Hope you enjoy reading them as well! Thursday I'll spotlight two more people that artists that I pick up pretty much anything they put their name on as well. Have a great week y'all!

PS. And if you have some time and want to read a great interview, head over to the Comics Reporter and read an interview with my bud, Chris Schweizer! It's lengthy, but awesome! And like the other two, if you aren't familiar with his work, you should be!

Color Testing

I've been trying to get better at picking my colors for work. I'm still testing out some different palettes. Here are some color tests.

I'm doing this because in the somewhat near future, I'll be doing some more comics that will be in color. I need to practice now! I found this online too, and it's just nuts! It's the color scripts from the Incredibles!

It's the color breakdown from every scene in the movie! Ahh! So cool and good to reference. :D

Sorry for no post this past monday. Things have been a little crazy around here lately. I've been packing up and getting rid of a bunch of stuff. I hate moving, but at least this time I'll have little to nothing to take with me!

Heroes con is only a few weeks away now! I can't wait to see everybody and catch up! Have a great weekend y'all!

Rough Stuff!

Hey y'all hope your week is going well! It's down to the wire right now, FINALS ARE HERE! Next week is my last week in the spring quarter, and I'm so so so ready to be done! Here's some stuff I'm working on:

Mime Country

Recolored Clown world on fire! :O
Rough logo design for the CLOWNS!
And some random sketches.

With next week being the end of class, that means it's only a few weeks until Heroes Con in Charlotte, North Carolina! Woot! I'm pumped and can't wait for that show!

It also means I've gotta start packing since I'll be moving back out to Portland after Heroes, and I'm excited for that as well!

Have a great and safe Memorial Day weekend y'all!

Also I'm not usually a fan of mashup, but this has been my jam recently!

 Black Keys vs. Big Boi!

Gah! 2013 isn't that far!

More color doodles!

I just got back from spending the weekend in Savannah for Editor's Day, which was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones! Savannah is nice for being a great place to meet other younger cartoonists. I met a few that I'll eventually be seeing out in Portland this fall when they intern at Periscope studio.

Also I got a chance to see new pages from some of my good pals Jarrett Williams, Joey Weiser, and Rashad Doucet! Holy smokes, 2013 is gonna be a good year for comics, just sayin'. :D

Hope y'all have a great week!

Savannah Bound!

By the time this posts, I'll be in Savannah, Georgia for Editor's Day! Woot! And here's some WIP stuff while I'm away!

A new clown!

And here's a sketch I wanna finish up in a bit. Trying more to get the color just right for the mood. Coloring by mood is a lot more difficult than I thought!

It's gonna be a "who killed astro boy?" print maybe? we'll see.

Have a great weekend y'all!
